Age Limits

Are there any age limits?

Group Members
Age limit to purchase: There are no age limits to purchase as long as you are the hired employee.
Age limit for coverage: You can renew the plan during your entire lifetime as long as you remain employed with the group and the group continues coverage.
Age limit for dependents: Dependents are covered until age 26. Once a dependent reaches age 26 their coverage will be terminated. If they would like to continue coverage, they may to elect to enroll in an individual plan.

Individual Members
Age limit to purchase: You must be age 18 or over to purchase a Vision Care Direct individual plan.

Who is Vision Care Direct?

Vision Care Direct is the nation’s fastest growing Optometrist managed vision plan on the market. We currently have over 5,000,000 people who access our doctor network for care. Because Vision Care Direct is a doctor-owned vision care plan, there’s no insurance company to muddle the doctor-patient relationship. This allows our doctors to do what they love; provide the best care for their patients, the care that their patients want and deserve.

Can I change the plan if I decide I want other benefits than what I selected?

Group Members

Individual Members

Cancellation

Can I cancel at any time?

Group Members
No. This is a membership plan with a one or two-year commitment and you may cancel only during Open Enrollment or for a qualifying event. Please contact your Human Resources Department for more information.

Individual Members
No. This is a membership plan with a one-year commitment and typically your plan will automatically renew at the end of the plan year. If you have not used any of the VCD benefits you may be allowed to cancel early. If you have used any of the VCD Benefits, we cannot cancel your plan until the plan renews. All requests to cancel must be submitted in writing to cancel@visioncaredirect.com. Please contact our National Sales and Administration Office at 877-488-8900 for more information.

What if I become eligible for another vision plan after I enroll in Vision Care Direct. Can I cancel the VCD plan?

Group Members

Contact Lens

Does the plan cover medically necessary contact lenses?

If your plan covers/has a materials benefit we will typically cover up to $250 for medically necessary contact lenses.

Are contact lens fitting fees covered?

Group Members
Some plans may allow you to use the contact lens allowance towards the fitting fee. This will vary by plan and state. Please see your benefit summary for detailed information regarding your plan and benefits or contact your Human Resources Department for more information.

Individual Members

What if I wear both contact lenses and glasses? Can I get both?

The plans with materials benefits cover one pair of glasses per year OR contact lens up to the allowance. You can purchase multiple plans to obtain additional materials.

Can I put myself on one plan and my kids on another?

Emergency Care

What if I need to see an eye doctor for an emergency?

Vision Care Direct membership plans offer benefits for routine eye care and materials. A medical eye emergency would typically not be covered under a Vision Care Direct membership plan and would be filed under your medical plan. If you need to seek care quickly for routine eye care and materials, please access our multi-state Provider Directory at Find a Doctor section or call our National Sales and Administration Office at 877-488-8900 for assistance.

Enrollment

How do I enroll in a Vision Care Direct membership plan?

Group Members
Please contact your Human Resources Department for information on how to enroll.

Individual Members
You may enroll in a Vision Care Direct membership plan on our website at Enrollment section.

How long is this plan?

Group Members
It is a membership plan that is typically for 12 or 24 months. Please see your benefit summary for detailed information regarding your plan and benefits or contact your Human Resources Department for more information.

Individual Members
It is an annual membership plan for 12 months.

How soon after I enroll can I see the doctor?

Group Members
Once your enrollment form is received it can take up to 7 business days to be processed and entered into our system. Once it is processed and you are eligible, you may obtain services.

Individual Members
If you enrolled in a plan online your benefits will be available immediately after you complete the online enrollment process. If you enroll in a plan through a paper application, it can take up to 7 business days to be processed and entered into our system. Once it is processed and you are eligible, you may obtain services.

Where do I send the paper application?

Individual Members

Frame Allowance

Am I limited to certain frames?

Group Members
You are not limited to certain frames however some states and plans may assess an additional fee to go outside of a specific frame line. Please see your benefit summary for detailed information regarding your plan and benefits or contact your Human Resources Department for more information.

Individual Members
No – you can select any frame from the provider’s inventory.

Can I buy as many pairs of glasses I want?

The plans with materials benefits cover one pair of glasses per year OR contact lens up to the allowance. You can purchase multiple plans to obtain additional materials.

ID Card

Do I need an ID card?

An ID card will be issued, but it is not necessary to obtain services. You can always download a duplicate copy from our Members section. For your privacy and security, you will first need to create a login.

Insurance

Is this insurance?

No, this is a membership plan.

Since this isn’t insurance, then who guarantees requests for payment will be paid?

The doctors assume all financial risk.

Medicare

What if I’m on Medicare?

You can enroll in Vision Care Direct even if on Medicare. Anyone is eligible to enroll regardless of other coverage. However, we do not coordinate benefits.

Payment Options

Can I pay monthly and how?

Group Members
Your payments will be payroll deducted. Please contact your Human Resources Department for more information.

Individual Members
It depends on the state; some of our states offer an annual payment option only. Please go to Enrollment section or call our National Sales and Administration Office at 877-488-8900 for assistance.

Polycarbonate

Does this plan cover polycarbonate lenses for my children?

Renewal

Will this plan automatically renew?

Group Members
Yes. This is a membership plan with a one or two-year commitment and typically your plan will automatically renew at the end of the plan year unless your Human Resources Department has notified us otherwise. Please contact your Human Resources Department for more information.

Individual Members
Yes. This is a membership plan with a one-year commitment and typically your plan will automatically renew at the end of the plan year unless you have submitted a written request to cancel. A renewal letter will be mailed to you prior to the end of the first 12 months giving you a reminder of the renewal and the option to cancel. All requests to cancel must be submitted in writing to cancel@visioncaredirect.com. Please contact our National Sales and Administration Office at 877-488-8900 for more information.

Request for Payment

Do I need a Request for Payment form?

Group Members
Not if you see a Vision Care Direct provider. They will file a Request for Payment with us after you have received services.
If you see an Out of Network provider you will need to complete and submit an Out of Network Request for Payment form with all applicable receipts. Please note that seeing an Out of Network provider significantly reduces your benefit/reimbursement. Locate the Out of Network Request for Payment Form at Forms section.

Individual Members
Not if you see a Vision Care Direct provider. They will file a Request for Payment with us after you have received services. You must see a Vision Care Direct provider to use your Vision Care Direct plan and benefits. There are no Out of Network Benefits.

Retail Stores

Are retail stores on your plan?

No, only private practice doctors. You must obtain services from a Vision Care Direct doctor to receive your full benefits. Vision Care Direct is a doctor-owned vision care plan, there’s no insurance company to muddle the doctor-patient relationship. Social Security Number

Do I have to provide a social security number?

No, our system does not require or use Social Security Numbers.

Tinting

Does this plan cover coatings and tints?

Individual Members
No, those are cosmetic options and you will pay the doctor’s retail price.

Traveling

What if I need to see an eye doctor and I’m traveling?

Is there a waiting period?

Group Members
No, Vision Care Direct does not have any waiting periods. However, please contact your Human Resources Department for more information and to find out if they implement any waiting periods internally.

Individual Members
